Our FAQ covers everything you need to know about memberships, swim lessons, teams, calendars, events, volunteering, and more to help your family make the most of the season.
1. What is WES?
WES is a volunteer-run community aquatic club offering a family pool, lessons, sports teams, youth programs, social activities, and summer events for all ages.
2. How do I become a member?
Registration takes place before the season begins. Membership categories, fees, and important dates are communicated through WES's official channels.
3. What programs are offered?
Depending on the season, WES may offer:

Program offerings may vary from season to season based on registration numbers and staff availability.
4. What swimming level should I register my child in?
First, consult the swimming level equivalency chart here:
If you're still unsure, stop by before the season begins and one of our lifeguards can perform a quick swim assessment to help determine the best fit.
5. How do I sign up for aquatic programs and team sports?
There is no separate registration process for programs such as Swim Team, Guppies, Water Polo, Diving, Artistic Swimming, or the Leaders Program.
Simply indicate which programs you would like to participate in during registration and attend practices or activities according to the published schedule.
Exception: Bronze Star, Bronze Medallion, and Bronze Cross may have additional fees associated with certifications, manuals, and requirements set by the Lifesaving Society.
6. What are Guppies?
Guppies is a recreational program designed for younger children who are not yet old enough to join a competitive team. Sessions focus on fun, water games, confidence-building, and developing basic aquatic skills.
7. What is the Leaders Program?
The Leaders Program is designed to encourage responsibility, develop leadership skills, build friendships, and give youth an opportunity to become actively involved in the WES community while having fun throughout the summer.
Who can participate?
Leaders

Must be at least 12 years old or have completed Grade 6.
Junior Leaders
-
For youth aged 10–11 who have completed Grade 4 or 5 and are entering Grade 5 or 6.
What do Leaders do?
Leaders and Junior Leaders help support the daily activities of the pool by assisting lifeguards, coaches, and volunteers when needed.
Activities may include:

Helping during swimming lessons

Assisting with fundraising activities

Helping at the snack bar
-
Welcoming members and guests at the entrance

Supporting special events and activities
-
Assisting with activities for younger children

Helping around the pool as needed
In return for their involvement, Leaders have opportunities to participate in special activities and experiences organized specifically for them throughout the summer.
An information meeting for parents and participants will be held at the beginning of the season to review expectations, responsibilities, and opportunities.
The program focuses on developing independence, teamwork, leadership, and community involvement in a positive and enjoyable environment.
8. What's the difference between lessons and teams?
Lessons

9. How will I know when my swimming lesson is scheduled?
For weekday lessons, watch for the email sent to members with lesson sign-up information.
For weekend and Monday evening lessons, the schedule will be distributed before the start of the season.

Members can also subscribe to calendars and receive updates automatically.
11. Why are there multiple calendars?
Each program has its own calendar to keep scheduling organized and easy to follow.
Members can subscribe only to the calendars relevant to them or to multiple calendars depending on their participation.
12. How do I add WES calendars to my phone?
WES calendars can be added to your phone or preferred calendar app using the subscription links provided by WES. Once subscribed, updates will appear automatically.
13. Can schedules change?
Yes. Schedules may change due to weather, competitions, facility maintenance, or operational needs.
Official calendars remain the most up-to-date source of information.
14. How will I know if an activity is cancelled due to weather?
If weather conditions affect scheduled activities, updates will be posted in the WES WhatsApp group as soon as possible.
15. Do I have to participate in competitions?
Yes. Athletes who join a team are generally expected to participate in competitions, meets, or tournaments associated with their program.
If you need to miss a competition, please notify your coach as early as possible.
Important exception: Artistic Swimming athletes must be available for qualifying competitions and the season-ending championship/final competition, since routines are performed as a team.
16. Should I notify someone if my child will be absent?
For swim lessons and recreational programs, there is generally no need to report an occasional absence.
For team programs—and especially competitions—please notify your coach as soon as possible.
17. Can parents stay on site during activities?
Yes. Parents are welcome on site and are asked to follow safety guidelines and respect areas reserved for athletes and coaches.
18. Are there social events?
Yes! WES organizes community activities and special events throughout the season for members and their families.
19. What is Awards Night?
Awards Night celebrates athletes, coaches, volunteers, and members for their achievements and contributions throughout the season.
20. Does WES sell merchandise?
Yes. Depending on the season, WES merchandise may include hoodies, t-shirts, hats, towels, team apparel, and promotional items. Visit our page here:
21. How do sponsors support WES?
Sponsors play an important role in the success of WES. Their support helps fund programs, equipment, special events, and facility improvements.
22. How can I become a sponsor?

23. Can I volunteer?
